Week starter: The Clockmakers

Step into a strange geometrically precise land with gymnasts on flat lines for trampolines producing music with every bounce and nuance- The Clockmakers. This is the most recent solo project from Renaud Hallée, an experimental film maker and audio visual composer from Montreal who works with Possible Metrics. The animation dives into  this winding and whirring geometric scape of lines, triangles and gears like clock work. The contrasting white background and the thick black lines makes it easier for the viewers to fathom the intricacies and precision in timing as Hallée has managed to create a mechanism of his own. The video was created using rotoscoping as they shot live action trampolinists whilst doing some of their moves. The whole film was done using these images and triangle structures, before an animator drew over the footage and they replaced the live action shots with his drawings.

Hallée along with Possible Metrics has created some impeccable short films like Combustion and Sonar. Sonar also works on a rhythmic  cycle which works on it’s own logic and language. The short was entirely made on flash.
