We are constantly surrounded by people who have potentials more than what they practice professionally. We bumped into one such talent that loves sketching and is always inking in his free time.
An architect based in Mumbai, Manas Gupta says these escapes to sketching is what keep him inspired to produce better work as an architect. The illustrations are his hobby and he doesn’t shy away to showcase his talent on other people’s hands if asked for. With a love for drawing in monotones both grey and colour and use of brush pens for their varying stroke intensity, we look into some of his scribbles.
His work has a mix of celebrity portraits, cartoon characters, portraits of strangers in crowds and different avatars of Lord Shiva, which is his personal favourite and has more than twenty takes on this one mythological character. He is not too keen on cataloging his sketches in sketchbooks or diaries. “I’ll scribble on a stone if I am in a mood”, he says. Keeping things as raw and innate as possible, he confesses he zones out of his surroundings with some help of music and tries to focus on things he likes to draw.
We enjoyed the use of a single colour in his sketches and the finesse in pen/brush strokes. To follow his work you can visit his profile on Instagram.
